In this heartful coming-of-age novel, Mia Winchell has synesthesia, the mingling of perceptions whereby a person can see sounds, smell colors, or taste shapes--and when she's to reveal her condition, she must look to herself to develop an understanding and appreciation of her gift. Mia appears to be a typical kid, but she knows she is far from ordinary. She's keeping a big secret--sounds, numbers, and words have color for her. No one knows, and Mia wants to keep it that way. But when trouble at school finally forces Mia to reveal her ability, she must learn to accept herself and embrace this gift, called synesthesia, or lose everything important to her.
